Columbia University is the first institution in the US to host a Stories in Science Journal Club Chapter. The organization for this first chapter was led by Emily Sherman who is an undergraduate at Columbia’s Barnard College and is also an Associate Editor in the Journal of Stories in Science. The goal of the Stories in Science Chapters is to help individuals to create their own safe spaces where their community could gather to discuss and share stories.
The first session was held on Oct 9, 2019 and the second session was held on Nov 22. After the first session, Emily mentioned the following:
“Overall everyone left feeling happy and definitely more connected to each other, as we realized that we can all relate to each other in regard to doubting ourselves/the system in general, and that as a community – if we continue to meet and discuss how we’re feeling on a personal level – it will definitely have a big impact on the future scientific community.”
