Amanda ColettiResident (C5 Fellows Alumni); STEM Identity Storytelling

I am a 4th year PhD student in the Communication department at the University of Connecticut (UConn). I completed my undergraduate degree in Behavioral Neuroscience at Connecticut College and my MS in Physiology & Neurobiology at UConn. In my second year of grad school, I took a science communication course that sparked my passion for science communication and storytelling. Currently, I study how to train scientists to tell stories about their research and experiences in STEM. I am also interested in how telling stories about STEM experiences influences engagement and identity. I aim to bridge the gaps between science communication theory, research, and practice, while also elevating peoples’ STEM stories. I am also a storyteller and have performed for The Story Collider and Speak Up Storytelling. When I’m not researching or teaching, I enjoy reading mystery novels, cooking/baking, and doing aerial yoga.
