I am a postdoc in biology at Harvard University and a visual artist. I have created science-inspired comics and illustrations for Gingko Bioworks, Conservation Law Foundation, and academic labs. As an educator, my goal is to help students build STEM and visual communication skills through activities that incorporate drawing (or other means of mark-making) into the scientific method. During my SAi residency, I will further develop my workshop series, Museum Zines, in collaboration with the Harvard Museum of Natural History and Museum of Comparative Zoology. Museum Zines engages middle school students in scientific inquiry using museum specimens, followed by synthesizing their discoveries into zines (small booklets of words and pictures) to be shared with museum visitors. A future goal of mine is to work with students to publish science comic anthologies for their peers and communities.
