I will be graduating with my master’s in Plant Biology from Oklahoma State University in May 2023, studying the effects of fungal spillover from coffee plantations on tropical forest tree seedlings in Costa Rica. I concurrently run a project, The Coffee Conflict, to highlight the ongoing research projects, as well as the people who live and work in this area. I graduated with a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in Anthropology from The College of New Jersey in 2020 and spent a year as a Green Iowa AmeriCorps member with Trees Forever before starting my master’s degree. I am passionate about science advocacy and I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn about and interact with science. My project initiative, SciXplorers, is focused on inspiring life-long learning skills in middle-school kids, by introducing them to the scientific method in a fun, informal and accessible way. The goal is to empower kids to ask questions about the natural world around them and explore these curiosities at their own pace, with the support of the app. After my master’s, I plan to pursue a career in science communication to continue my work of making science fun and accessible to all. When I am not researching or talking about science, I enjoy drawing, reading and cooking anything that involves carbs.
