Isabel Rojas-FerrerResident (Former Cohort 8 SAi Fellow)
I am a Puerto Rican scientist, educator and science communicator focusing on topics of animal behavior and advocacy. I possess a PhD in Biology specializing in Cognitive and Behavioral Ecology from PhD the University of Ottawa, Canada. I obtained my B.Sc. in Industrial Microbiology from the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez and a M.Sc. in Ecology, Evolution, and Systematics at the University of Missouri-Saint Louis. My research includes analyzing rhythm in tropical bird songs, social dynamics in fish, bee memory, and avian cognition and personality. Currently, I´m working on a public engagement initiative centered on combating animal misinformation and involuntary animal cruelty on social media. I am a fervent mental health advocate and have collaborated with Soapbox Science, the Journal of Animal Ecology, and Voices in Academia in order to bring awareness to mental health, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
