Jake KraussSpecial Correspondent, CivicSciTV (M-Lab)
I am a presenter and wildlife conservationist with nearly a decade of experience working on research projects across the globe. I am passionate about communicating the importance of the environment and science to the public and bring my skills in science communication to my work as a correspondent for SAiTV.
Throughout my research and in between, I have been actively involved in the science communication arena. I co-hosted a science news podcast on a local radio station before moving on to produce media for Prescott College’s Kino Bay Center in Sonora, Mexico. I am currently an ORISE fellow with the communications team at the Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Water, spreading awareness of the EPA’s work protecting public health and the environment.
I have studied a variety of animals, from birds in Peru to marsupials in Australia. Most recently, I completed a M.S. in tropical biology as part of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s program. For my master’s thesis, I was the first to radio track and document the range and social network of the Seychelles black parrot, found only on the island of Praslin in the Indian Ocean. I received a B.S. in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology from Rice University in Houston, Texas. My bachelor’s research focused on diet and behavior of endangered lemurs in Madagascar.
In my free time, I like to travel, take pictures and video of all the cool places and wildlife I see, and visit museums and immerse myself in all the cultural events and festivals back home in Washington D.C.
