What We Do
The Third Space is a collaborative space interested in the intersection between science and art and in creating an environment where they can cohabitate. We have two main objectives:
- researching the formats, goals, advantages, and barriers in the partnership between scientists and artists, using quantitative and qualitative methods and an open science approach.
- facilitating and strengthening collaborations and interactions between scientists and artists through initiatives and events.
The Third Space is managed by Arianna Zuanazzi, PhD.

Initiatives and Events
- In 2024, we hosted the Brain Awareness Week event Brain in Film, where we dived into the fascinating intersection of neuroscience and cinema. This event was organized in collaboration with Pratt, Genspace, and Labocine.
- In 2023, we coordinated the SciArt worshop Visualizing science through art and Art through Science, where a group of scientists and artists from various fields explored the interdisciplinary space of SciArt and merged their visual raw materials. This event was organized in collaboration with BraiNY and Genspace.
- In 2023, Arianna Zuanazzi hosted the 2023 Symbiosis Cineforum and the 2023 Roundtable, where scientists and filmmaker shared their collaborative experience. The Cineforum was part of the 2023 Science New Wave Film Festival.
- In 2023, Arianna Zuanazzi coordinated the Symbiosis Competition, an initiative where scientists and filmmakers collaboratively produced innovative short films (watch the 2023 Symbiosis Films). This initiative was part of the 2023 Science New Wave Film Festival.
News from the Third Space
