Amanda E. PinheiroJunior Resident; C6 SAi Fellow Alumni

I am a Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, and Biochemistry Ph.D. student at Boston University (BU) in the Naya Lab. My research is focused on elucidating the genetic and molecular mechanisms of muscle disease and regeneration. Through my project studying the regenerative microenvironment in skeletal muscle, I was awarded the Kilachand Fellowship. I also earned an M.S. in Human Physiology from BU. At The University of Akron, I received a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering while competing as an NCAA Division I Track and Field student-athlete. Through the SAi Fellow program, I launched Sport STEMinist which uses sports as a medium to build STEM-related self-efficacy and self-esteem in middle school girls throughout Greater Boston. This is accomplished through deliberately designed sports-based interactive learning activities focused on STEM subjects. As I pursue a career focused on translational medicine, I will continue to work towards greater diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM.
