Chief Resident’s Welcome

Fanuel Muindi, PhD

On behalf of all the staff and residents, it is my honor to welcome you to the Sai Resident Collective. In short, you can call us the SRC, the Sai, the Sai Collective, or just the collective. I encourage you to explore our history to learn about how we got here. My name is Fanuel Muindi and I am the Founder and Chief Resident here in the SRC. I also serve as the Director of my own lab hosted within the collective called the Civic Science Media Lab. So, what does the SRC do? To put it simply, we are an incubator that is enabling new scholars and social entrepreneurs around the world to build the next generation of civic science initiatives. By civic science, we mean public engagement with science, science communication, science policy, community science, and so on. The key is that the initiatives are connecting the scientific enterprise and local communities in innovative ways. The challenge is that launching and running fundable civic science initiatives is not easy. And that’s our Why.

We ultimately want to make civic science lifelong and accessible to all around the world. Why? Our core belief is that civic science engagement is a necessary catalyst for social advancement and ultimately, global peace. This singular focus is what drives all our work in supporting the residents.

There are several ways to engage the SRC.

(1) If you are looking to join our staff, check out our job board for any openings.

(2) If you are an undergraduate student, consider applying to our summer internship program and get paid to work with our residents.

(3) If you are a founder of an existing science engagement initiative and are looking to accelerate its growth with additional funding, engage with other founders in the space, learn new skills, and more, consider applying to our residency
